For Peace To Mateo (a/k/a Matt Black), the album Some Strange Reason has been a labor of love. Written and produced over the past two years, the album contains a tight 8-song track list, each an evolved composition containing only fragments and samples of their original demos.
After years of sample-based production, Black delivers his first album of wholly original compositions. Although elements were tracked at various studios around Detroit, the bulk of the album was written and composed at the Young Heavy Souls studio (lovingly referred to as YHS HQ) located in Detroit’s Grand River Creative Corridor.
Sonically, Some Strange Reason is cinematic and surreal, with heavy inspiration from trip-hop, dub, dream-pop, and glitch hop.
